Limited Hardware Warranty

Limited Hardware Warranty

Overview

All refurbished desktops and laptops sold by Free Geek Toronto ("FGT") come with a 90-day limited hardware warranty. If your computer's hardware is faulty, we will diagnose it to confirm the problem. Once the fault is confirmed, we will, at our discretion, repair or replace the faulty hardware, or, if the issue cannot be fixed, offer an exchange for an item of comparable value (based on FGT's current inventory and pricing) or store credit.

Defects that FGT disclosed to you in writing or verbally at the time of purchase (for example, a known battery limitation) are sold as-is and are not covered by this warranty.

In short: if something we sold you breaks due to a manufacturing defect, we'll fix it, replace it, or give you credit toward another item - up to what you paid. We can't cover damage from drops or spills, problems from installing a different operating system, or costs beyond your purchase price.

What is covered

This limited warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship in the hardware sold by Free Geek Toronto.

What is NOT covered

This warranty does not cover:

  • Damage from causes unrelated to the computer's condition as received from FGT, such as dropping the device or liquid damage
  • Hardware issues arising after the operating system installed by FGT at the time of sale has been changed, replaced, or dual-booted with another operating system
  • Software issues, including the operating system or any preloaded software
  • Damage from misuse, accidents, or abuse
  • Hardware or software changes not authorized or performed by Free Geek Toronto
  • Use of the product outside its intended instructions
  • Products missing their FGT asset tag or serial number
  • Problems caused by parts or components not supplied by Free Geek Toronto
  • Purely cosmetic scratches, dents, or similar damage that does not affect function

Liability

Nothing in this warranty limits, excludes, or replaces any warranty, condition, or remedy you have under the Sale of Goods Act, the Consumer Protection Act, 2002 (as amended or replaced from time to time), or any other applicable law. If any part of this section conflicts with those rights, the law prevails, and the rest of this section continues to apply.

If a product has a defect in materials or workmanship, FGT's responsibility is to repair or replace it, exchange it, or provide store credit, as described above. Beyond that remedy, and to the extent the law allows, FGT is not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost data, lost use of the product, or claims against you by someone else, and FGT's total liability for a product-related claim will not exceed the amount you paid for it.

Warranty duration

This limited hardware warranty lasts 90 days from the purchase date shown on your sales receipt. If a product or part is replaced under warranty, the warranty period is neither extended nor restarted. Free Geek Toronto may change the availability of its limited hardware warranty at its discretion; any changes will not apply retroactively to purchases already made.

Before you request warranty service

Please back up any personal data on your device before bringing it in for diagnosis or repair. Free Geek Toronto is not responsible for data loss, and warranty service may require reformatting or reinstalling the operating system.
